Happy earth day!
Well, technically, every day should be earth day. We should always live in a way that is kind to our home planet. But this is a good day to remind us that we can all take small steps to make a big difference in our planet.
Below are some super easy ways to show our love for our wonderful planet and to celebrate earth day:
Plant a tree or a plant: trees give out oxygen, help to decrease global warming, and increase property value! If planting a tree is out of the question, start a vegetable garden or plant some flowers.
Ride your bike or walk to work: instead of a driving, bike or walk to work. Collectively we can help reduce our carbon footprint. Not only will we be good to the planet, but we will also be getting some amazing exercise. If this is not a possibility, consider carpooling or taking public transportation.
Buy reusable bags: Americans use 100 billion plastic bags a year! Not only does this lead to landfills but the production of these bags requires 12 million barrels of oil! Landfills will in turn be detrimental to our wildlife. Using reusable bags will not only be good for the planet but make you look stylish!
Use a refillable water bottle: plastic water bottles take 1.5 million barrels of oil to manufacture and also lead to tons of landfill! Consider using a reusable bottle with a filter to enjoy fresh water every time.
Support your local farmer’s market: Produce has to travel an average of 1,500 miles to get to you. All the shipping and traveling can lead to an increase in pollution and carbon emissions. Consider signing up for a local community supporter agriculture CSA to get local, seasonal produce deliver directly to your door.
