The video is title DIY crochet kit for Little chick but can be used with this and all the ARTerey DIY crochet kits of all the animals.
- Sc- single stich – hook through the stich (chain), pull yarn through. Now you have 2 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull the 2 loops together. Single stich created.
- Ch– chain – hook under the yarn and pull through the loop before to create a chain
- 2sc = increase – 2 sc in the same stitch
- ( ) X= Repeat what is in the brackets however many times it states
- Dec– decrease- single crochet two together insert hook into first stitch and pull up a loop, insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop (3 loops on the hook) yarn over and pull through all 3 loops.
- Sl. St- hook through the stitch pull up a loop. Pull the second loop through the loop already on the hook to create a sl.st
- MC– magic circle
This project and most amigurumi are worked in rounds. That means you can either keep going in circles or as in this case, close each round with a slip stich (sl st) and start a new round with a ch.1. This ch 1 is considered a turning stich and is NOT counted as part of the total number of stitches. Do NOT ch.1 at the end of the body part.
Start by creating a MC
Place yarn around 2 fingers with a tail hanging in the front, wrap the yarn around the fingers crossing the yarn over
Hold the hanging tail firmly with your thumb. Thread your hook under the strand of the long loop (strand 1) and pull up the yarn from the other strand (strand 2). Go around the finger and yarn over the strand 2 to create a chain 1. You will end up with something that looks like this. Create 6sc in this MC around both the strands . Pull the bottom strand (strand 1) to close the circle.
While this is more challenging, it creates a nice tight start to your bunny.
Alternatively,
You can start the project with ch2 and making 6sc in the first chain. Start with a slip knot make a loop with the yarn, wrap it around and make a knot. Put the hook through the slip knot and pull it snugly pulling the short strand of yarn. Make sure that this is NOT too tight. Your chains should be nice and loose- but not too loose
While this is much easier, it will leave a slight hole on top of your bunny. Sl st. ch1
Round 2: sc 2 in each sc = 12. Sl st. ch1
Round 3: (sc, 2sc)X6 = 18. Sl st. ch1
Round 4: (sc, sc, 2sc)X6 =24. Sl st. ch1
Round 5: (sc, sc, sc, 2sc)X6 = 30. Sl st. ch1
Round 6: (Sc, sc, sc, sc, 2sc)X6 = 36. Sl st. ch1
Round 2: sc 2 in each sc = 12. Sl st. ch1
Round 3: (sc, 2sc)X6 = 18. Sl st. ch1
Round 4: (sc, sc, 2sc)X6 =24. Sl st. ch1
Round 5: (sc, sc, sc, 2sc)X6 = 30. Sl st. ch1
Round 6: (Sc, sc, sc, sc, 2sc)X6 = 36. Sl st. ch1
Round 7 – Round 16 : sc in each sc = 36 .Sl st. ch1
Place safety eyes between Round 8 and 9 with 5stiches in between the two eyes.
You are now going to be decreasing your work.
Round 17 : (sc, sc, sc, sc, dec )X6 = 30. Sl st. ch1
Round 18: (sc, sc, sc, dec)X6 =24. Sl st. ch1
Start stuffing the bunny.
Round 19: (sc, sc, dec)X6= 18. Sl st. ch1
Round 20 : (sc, dec)X6 =12. Sl st. ch1
Finish stuffing the bunny.
Round 21: (dec)X6 = 6. Sl st. . End with a knot and leave a long strand of yarn to close the hole.
Take a tapestry needle and thread it through the strand. Pull through all the stiches and create a knot to close the project. Weave the yarn through before cutting it for a neater look.
Nose
Using pink floss, embroider the nose to the face between round 9 and 10 between the eyes. The width of the nose should be about 2 stiches. Make a couple of stitches on top of each other. Then have the needle come out at an angle about 2 stitches below this level, in the middle of the horizontal stich. Use the needle to come up at an angle to the other side. This will create a triangle for the nose. Fill in the triangle with the floss.
Ears– make 2
Start with MC or ch 2.
Round 1: 5 sc in the first chain or MC
Round 2: (2sc)X5= 10sc. Sl st. ch1
Round 3 -13 : sc in each sc= 10 sc. Sl st. ch1(do not ch 1 at the end of round 9)
End. Leave a long strand to affix ears to the sides of the bunny. Do not stuff the ears.
Pinch the bottom of the ear and use a tapestry needle to sew the two edges together.
Affix the ears on the head between rounds 3-4.
Arms – Make 2
Start with MC or ch 2.
Round 1: 5 sc in the first chain or MC
Round 2: (2sc)X5= 10sc. Sl st. ch1
Round 3- sc in all= 10sc. Sl s tch 1
Round 4: (sc, dec)X3, sc, sc= 8sc. Sl st. ch1
Round 6-7: Sc in each sc= 8 sc. Sl stch 1 (do not ch.1 at the end of round 7).
End. Leave a long strand to affix arms to the sides of the bunny. Stuff lightly.
Flatten the arms and use a tapestry needle to sew the two edges together.
Affix the arms on the body on the same row as the top of the nose, on the sides of the bunny. Use a pin to hold the arms to the body to make it easier while you sew it in place Fasten and weave in the yarn for a neater appearance.
Feet – Make 2
Start with MC or ch 2.
Round 1: 5 sc in the first chain or MC
Round 2: (2sc)X5= 10sc. Sl st. ch1
Round 3-7: sc in each sc= 10sc. Sl st. ch1
Round 8: (Sc , sc, sc, dec)X2= 8sc. Sl st.
End. Leave a long strand to affix feet to the base of the bunny. Do not stuff the feet.
Flatten the feet and use a tapestry needle to sew the two edges together.
Affix the feet on the base of the body between with the feet pointing at an angle. Use a pin to hold the feet to the base to make it easier while you sew it in place. Fasten and weave in the yarn for a neater appearance.
Tail
Use a hot glue gun or a little stitch to hold the pom pom to the back of the body between rounds 17-19.
