A little bit about me and my art

Hello, My name is Shelina Ishani. I am a doctor of physical therapy, a mom, a wife and an artist. I am fascinated by the human body and love to create one of a kind of art work depicting the human body using coiled strips of 3mm width paper. I also love to crochet and have been crocheting for a very long time.

What is paper quilling?

Paper quilling, also known as paper filigree, is art that is created using long, thin strips of paper that are rolled and pinched to create different shapes.  The individually created pieces are then glued down on to create intricately designed 2- and 3-dimensional art.

Why anatomy?

My passion for anatomy stems from my degrees in biology and in physical therapy.  As a physical therapist, I am fascinated by the intricacies of the human body and the role of each organ and body part in a person’s function.

According to Wikipedia, crochet is an art of creating textiles and objects using a hook to interlock loops of yarn or thread. The term crochet is French and means “small hook”. Amigurumi is an art of creating stuffed creatures and objects using crochet to create the outer layer and stuffing the creatures to give it a soft plush feeling. The term amigurumi is derived from a compound of  Japanese words, Ami meaning crocheted or knitted and Kurumi meaning wrapping.
